EFCC Arraigns Couple for N1.09bn Contract Fraud

Olorunbukunmi Taiwo, a self-styled native doctor, and his wife, Awolegan Omolola Omotola, were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti on allegations of contract fraud amounting to N1.09 billion. The couple faces six counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and related offenses, contrary to the EFCC Establishment Act of 2004.

The EFCC's Ilorin Zonal Director led the prosecution, stating that the couple allegedly approached Anazia Colina Kenechukwu, a widow who owns a private school in Delta State, proposing to finance a road construction contract awarded by the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC). Kenechukwu reportedly transferred substantial sums to Taiwo's Access Bank account based on these false representations.

Investigations revealed a total of N1.98 billion was transferred to Taiwo's account. The EFCC has also identified properties linked to the couple in Ado Ekiti.

The case has been adjourned until June 11, 2026, for a bail application hearing.
