Supreme Court Overturns Acquittal in N1.3bn Fraud Case Involving Lamido and Sons

The Supreme Court has nullified the acquittal of former Governor Lamido and his sons in a N1.3bn fraud case, ruling in favor of an appeal by the EFCC. The case revolves around allegations of money laundering and abuse of office during Lamido's tenure as governor of Jigawa State from 2007 to 2015.

The apex court set aside the Court of Appeal's judgment and ordered Lamido and his sons to return to the Federal High Court to defend themselves against the charges. The EFCC had accused Lamido and his sons of laundering kickbacks received from contractors handling state projects.

Despite the dismissal of the case by the trial court earlier, the Supreme Court's decision now mandates a continuation of the trial.
