Peter Obi Defends Wife's N250m Handbag Purchase

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), addressed the controversy surrounding his wife Margaret Obi's alleged purchase of a N250 million Hermès handbag during an interview in Washington, DC, USA. He clarified that Margaret has her own business and income, and he does not interfere with her personal spending as long as it does not impact his management of public funds.

Obi noted that his wife was already sophisticated in her fashion choices before he became the governor of Anambra State. He stated, “My wife has her own business and her own money, so what is my business if she buys expensive items with her money?” Furthermore, he mentioned that he did not establish an office for the First Lady during his tenure as governor and that he does not celebrate his birthday, although he does not stop others from doing so.
