Emefiele Trial: Witness Confirms No Interview Conducted

In the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, a witness, David Jaiyeoba, testified that he did not interview Emefiele during the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation into alleged procurement fraud. Emefiele is facing 20 counts of charges, including criminal breach of trust, forgery, and conspiracy to obtain money under false pretenses, related to a sum of ₦6,230,000 purportedly meant for the 2023 general elections.

During cross-examination by Emefiele's lawyer, Mathew Burkaa, Jaiyeoba admitted that he was not involved in the interview process and could not recall the names of individuals involved in the bid process for contracts awarded to two companies, April 1616 Nigeria Ltd and Architekon Nigeria Ltd. The trial, presided over by Justice Hamza Muazu, continues as the court addresses various procedural matters, including a request for a report related to the investigation.
