Amaechi Hosts Opposition Leaders for 2027 Election Strategy

On a Saturday, Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transport, hosted Peter Obi and several opposition leaders in Abuja to discuss strategies for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Present at the meeting were Victor Umeh, former Anambra State Governor Achike Udenwa, and Victor Oganku.

Sources familiar with the meeting disclosed that the discussions centered on strengthening the opposition front to safeguard Nigeria's democratic future. This gathering comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to build alliances capable of challenging the ruling party in the next electoral cycle.

Amaechi, who previously contested in the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and finished second behind President Bola Tinubu, emphasized the need for capable leadership to tackle economic hardship and insecurity. The African Democratic Congress (ADC), represented by Bolaji Abdullahi, is reportedly considering a consensus approach to select its presidential candidate, although direct primaries remain an option under the amended electoral act.
