Amaka Onwughalu: Nigeria's First Female Bank MD from Anambra

Amaka Onwughalu has achieved a historic milestone as the first female Managing Director from Anambra in Nigeria's banking industry. Currently, she serves as the Chairman of Fidel Bank PLC, marking her as the second Anambra woman to hold the position of chairman in a commercial bank in Nigeria.

Her extensive career spans over three decades, during which she has held pivotal roles, including Chief Executive Officer of Blueshield Financial Services Ltd and Group Managing Director of Mainstreet Bank Ltd from 2014 to 2015. Onwughalu was instrumental in the integration of Skye Bank during its transition, showcasing her expertise in managing complex financial portfolios and corporate governance.

She has also served as the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Bank Ltd in 2005, making her one of the earliest female CEOs in Nigeria's banking sector. Onwughalu holds degrees in Economics and an MBA, and she is a fellow member of several prestigious bodies, contributing significantly to corporate governance and risk management.
