Amnesty International Demands Probe of Niger Airstrike

Amnesty International has demanded that Nigerian authorities conduct an independent investigation into a military airstrike that allegedly killed six civilians in the Guradnayi settlement near Kusasu. The airstrike reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday around 5:00 AM during military operations targeting armed groups in the area.

Several other individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. Amnesty International expressed concern over the recurring loss of civilian lives during military operations, warning that such incidents raise serious questions about Nigeria's compliance with international human rights and humanitarian law.

The organization stressed the need for security agencies to adhere strictly to principles of distinction and proportionality during military operations. Furthermore, Amnesty International urged the federal government to provide medical care, humanitarian assistance, and psychosocial support to the victims and their families.

They also called for an urgent review of operational procedures for aerial bombardments to prevent further civilian casualties.
