INEC's New Chairman Joash Amupitan Vows to Ensure Credible Elections in Nigeria

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Amupitan, a senior advocate of Nigeria, succeeds Professor Mahmood Yakubu with a promise to conduct an audit of INEC's results and address technical issues to enhance public confidence in the electoral process for the upcoming 2023 general elections.

He also aims to engage in legislative dialogues to overcome legal constraints hindering INEC's operations, particularly related to the Electoral Act. The appointment comes amidst considerations for amending the electoral laws and the challenges of staggered elections in Nigeria.
