ADC Youths Demand INEC Chairman's Resignation in Protest

On Monday, April 20, 2026, youths from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) staged a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Yaba, Lagos, demanding the resignation of Joash Amupitan, the chairman of INEC. The protesters displayed placards with messages such as "ADC not for sale" and emphasized that Amupitan had compromised democracy.

The protest was led by Adeola Olusi, the party's national deputy youth leader, and occurred in the presence of security personnel. The ADC has seen a sharp increase in new members, attributed to recent actions by INEC, as explained by Abdullahi during an interview.

The party is currently facing a leadership crisis, with factions led by Nafiu Bala and David Mark disputing the party's structure, a situation that has persisted since July 2025. INEC announced it no longer recognizes either faction, as stated in a statement signed by Moham Haruna, the commission's national commissioner for voter education.
