ADC Demands INEC Chairman's Resignation Over Bias

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed shock at the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) decision to withdraw recognition of the party's leadership, which a rival faction described as unlawful. The ADC has called for the resignation of INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, accusing the commission of bias and undermining Nigeria's democracy.

During a press conference on Thursday at Shehu Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, ADC's national chairman David Mark described the situation as a direct attack on democracy, emphasizing that recent developments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu raise concerns about political freedom. Mark stated that the ADC aims to protect democratic values and provide a credible alternative for Nigerians.

The party's leadership structure is currently in dispute, with accusations against INEC of acting in contempt of court. The ADC has scheduled congress activities beginning April 9 and a national convention on April 14, asserting that INEC's actions could affect participation in upcoming elections in Osun and Ekiti states.
