Anambra First Lady Calls for Global Humanitarian Support

On World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, Dr. Nony Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, urged for enhanced global humanitarian support to address escalating humanitarian needs. She commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the broader International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for their critical roles in communities facing the compounded effects of natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and displacement.

Dr. Soludo called on sovereign governments, healthcare stakeholders, and humanitarian institutions to bolster emergency preparedness. She highlighted the importance of maintaining dignity and neutrality during crises and noted the vital safety net provided by humanitarian groups, including public health initiatives and maternal health advocacy.

Her remarks coincided with the annual global observance on May 8, commemorating the birth of Henri Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Soludo concluded by urging the Nigerian and global community to move beyond mere recognition of humanitarian efforts and to renew commitments to support underserved populations within their borders.
