Anambra State and IPAS Collaborate to Boost Maternal Health

Anambra State's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, announced a partnership with IPAS to enhance maternal healthcare services during a meeting in Awka with an IPAS delegation led by Co-Director Mr. Samsu Gombwer. Anambra was selected as one of five priority states in a program aimed at improving reproductive and maternal healthcare.
Obidike emphasized the need for sustained commitment and cooperation among stakeholders to achieve the program's objectives, which include expanding access to contraception and family planning services. Gombwer noted that IPAS has collaborated with the Anambra State Ministry of Health for two years, focusing on policy dissemination and training healthcare workers in post-abortion care.
The new program will target policy development, community engagement, and health system strengthening, extending support to 20 additional health facilities. Implementation will begin with stakeholder consultations and assessments, followed by training for state-level trainers who will provide ongoing training for healthcare workers.
