Soludo Appoints Esther Onyekesi as Women Affairs Commissioner

Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Esther Chinyer Onyekesi, the mother of the late businessman Martin Onyekesi, as the new Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.

Martin Onyekesi, also known as "Fish Magnet," was abducted and later found dead, with a ransom reportedly paid, which sparked significant public outrage and protests across the state, including demonstrations led by social media activist Martin Vincent Ots, known as VeryDarkMan. Despite the tragedy surrounding Martin Onyekesi's death, the appointment has been described as non-political, although there have been attempts by political actors to politicize the matter.

This appointment is part of the first batch of 18 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Soludo to the Anambra State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. Other nominees include Dr.

Ben Chuk Odoemena for Agriculture and Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoy for Budget and Economic Planning, among others.

The list was received by Speaker Somtochukwu Nkem Udez during a plenary session.
