Soludo Appoints Onyekesi's Mother as Women Affairs Commissioner

On a recent Tuesday, Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo announced the appointment of Mr.

Esther Chinyer Onyekesi as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development. This decision follows the tragic abduction and death of her son, Martin Onyekesi, a businessman who was kidnapped last year, with a ransom reportedly paid for his release.

The incident sparked public outrage and protests across the state, including demonstrations led by social media activist Martin Vincent Ots, known as VeryDarkMan. Mr.

Onyekesi previously served as a women leader in the Progress Grand Alliance (APGA). The appointment of Mr.

Onyekesi is part of the first batch of 18 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Soludo to the Anambra State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. The Speaker of the House, Somtochukwu Nkem Udez, received the list during a plenary session, which will be referred to the committee for screening.
