Youth Protest in Kano Leads to Arson Over Insecurity

On May 15, 2026, a bandit attack in Lakwaya Village, Gwarzo, Kano, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others. The attackers, reportedly on 30 motorcycles, opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic among residents.

In response to the escalating insecurity, frustrated youth protested at the local government secretariat, vandalizing property and setting the office of the local government chairman, Ismail Aliyu, on fire. The protest involved residents trekking twenty kilometers to the secretariat to express their grievances regarding persistent security challenges affecting their community.
