Kogi State Bans Graduation Ceremonies in Schools to Reduce Financial Burden

The Kogi State government, under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has banned graduation ceremonies in basic and secondary schools across the state. The decision was announced by the state commissioner, Wemi Jones, during a meeting with education stakeholders in Lokoja.

The ban aims to reduce the financial burden on parents and promote a more meaningful approach to celebrating student achievements. Additionally, a new policy requires parents to provide notebooks for their children's classwork instead of using textbooks, with the aim of making the textbooks reusable for siblings.

This policy will be immediately implemented across the state to align with the Kogi State Education Law introduced in 2020.
