APC Denies Links to Violence in Enugu's Nkanu West

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) issued a statement on September 16, 2026, distancing itself from allegations of political violence in the Nkanu West Local Government Area. Chief Uche Obute, the State Publicity Secretary, described the claims as “misleading, unsubstantiated and politically motivated.” The APC urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and stated its support for the prosecution of anyone found guilty of violence, regardless of political affiliation.

The party rejected any association of Governor Peter Mbah with the violence, asserting that his administration prioritizes peace, security, and good governance. The APC also called for restraint among opposition parties to avoid misinformation and inflammatory rhetoric.

The statement emphasized that political disagreements should be resolved democratically and lawfully. The National Democratic Congress reported that eight of its members were injured during a political gathering in Nkanu West, which was disrupted by unidentified gunmen.
