APC Faces Divisions Over Governor Bala Mohammed's Defection

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing internal divisions regarding Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed's potential defection to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Governor Mohammed has been consulting intensively with stakeholders, indicating a possible switch.

Some members within the Bauchi chapter of APC are pushing back against this move, citing concerns over political strategy and trust. Recent meetings with APC lawmakers in Abuja have revealed a readiness among some federal lawmakers to support a cross-party shift.

Despite the ongoing consultations, no formal announcement regarding the defection has been made. The situation is complicated by a broader political crisis within the PDP, which has seen a wave of defections.

Mohammed, alongside Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, remains one of the few influential PDP governors yet to formally declare a shift. APC members express concerns that admitting Mohammed could destabilize the party's structure and weaken existing alliances, especially given public criticisms of the APC-led federal government under President Bola Tinubu.
