APC Braces for Defections Ahead of 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is bracing for a significant wave of defections as lawmakers grow increasingly anxious about their chances of securing return tickets ahead of the 2027 elections. The introduction of the new electoral act has eliminated indirect primaries, prompting fears among lawmakers that state governors may work against their candidacies.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a revised electoral timetable, which has intensified the urgency for lawmakers to secure their positions. Reports indicate that governors from opposition parties are negotiating to ensure their members are not caught off guard by the APC's plans.

In Delta State, discussions have emerged regarding an agreement that would allow APC to handpick candidates for the upcoming elections. The APC is reportedly planning to conduct primaries across various states, with a focus on reducing mass defections and accommodating members from other parties, including the People's Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP).
