APC Chieftain Warns of Membership Decline and Internal Divisions Ahead of 2027 Elections

Yekini Nabena, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised concerns about the party's dwindling membership, estimating a struggle to reach 10 million members. He warned against surrendering party structures to state governors ahead of congresses, fearing further internal divisions.

Nabena emphasized the need for inclusivity in the congress processes to rebuild party unity and grassroots support. He criticized the current National Working Committee (NWC) leadership for lacking electoral experience and called for transparent nomination processes to avoid disputes.

Nabena also highlighted the risk of a major internal crisis if governors dictate candidate selections, urging party elders like Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and prevent potential implosions. The APC, with over 40 million registered members, faces challenges in ensuring fair and open competition within the party to maintain unity and prevent mass defections.
