Gombe Governor Yahaya Warns Against Violence in Primaries

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State issued a warning to politicians against violence in a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, ahead of the forthcoming APC primaries. He stated that the state will not tolerate actions that threaten peace, particularly in light of disagreements among aspirants.

Despite efforts by the APC Elder Committee and the state executive committee to build consensus around candidate endorsements, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, rejected the consensus arrangement in favor of Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku.

This situation has led to protests from Muhammadu Danjuma Goje, who seeks to oust the 16-year serving Governor Yahaya. The governor confirmed that the party will proceed with direct primaries in accordance with Section 87(2) of the Electoral Act.

As he enters the final year of his administration on May 29, Yahaya reiterated that maintaining peace and stability is a top priority, warning that security agencies will not tolerate any attempts to exploit the primaries for chaos. He assured that anyone found culpable of disrupting public peace during the primaries will face the full weight of the law.
