Kingsley Chinda Appears for APC Governorship Screening

Kingsley Chinda, the current Minority Leader of the House of Representatives representing the Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency and a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), appeared before the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee on Saturday as part of the process for the APC governorship primaries in Rivers State. This development has further fueled speculation regarding Chinda's potential defection from the PDP to the APC, although he has not officially confirmed any plans to switch parties.

Additionally, Nyesom Wike, a prominent ally and Minister in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has obtained the APC governorship nomination form for the upcoming race. Another aspirant, Dax Georg Kelli, who is the Director General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), is also in contention.

However, questions have emerged regarding Kelli's eligibility to contest due to his status as a political appointee, which requires resignation by March 30, 2026, to pursue an elective position in 2027.
