APC Touts 13 Million Members, 31 Governors Ahead of 2027 Race

The ruling party projects electoral strength through membership numbers and state control while warning INEC against timetable changes.

The All Progressives Congress has positioned itself as the frontrunner for Nigeria's 2027 general elections, citing a membership base of approximately 13 million people and control of 31 state governorships. National Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatda made these claims during a meeting with a West African regional delegation at the party's headquarters in Abuja over the weekend.

The visiting team was a pre-election fact-finding mission from the Economic Community of West African States, headed by Victor Bockarie Foh, former Vice-President of Sierra Leone. The delegation met with senior APC officials, including members of the party's National Working Committee, to assess the electoral landscape ahead of the 2027 polls.

During the engagement, Yilwatda stressed that the party's organizational framework and geographical reach across the nation provided competitive advantages in the electoral contest. He also highlighted the party's cadre of more than 261,000 executive members working at various administrative levels.

Beyond presenting its strength, the APC cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission about maintaining consistency in its election timetable. The party warned against any alterations to the electoral schedule that could disproportionately benefit any single political contestant.

The statement underscored the APC's demand for procedural fairness and transparency from the electoral umpire in the run-up to the 2027 elections. The remarks were disclosed through a statement issued by Yilwatda's media aide on Sunday, a day after the ECOWAS delegation's visit to the secretariat in Abuja.
