APC vs PDP: INEC Announces Winners in Zamfara Supplementary Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Kamilu Saidu, as the winner of the supplementary election in the South State Constituency in Zamfara state. The returning officer, Lawal Sa'adu, revealed that Saidu garnered the most votes in the supplementary poll, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Muhammad Lawal Kurya.

The PDP candidate only managed to secure 194 votes in the constituency. The election took place in two registration areas and three polling units, with the APC candidate winning by a margin of votes less than the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in the affected polling units.

The battle for power in Zamfara has intensified since the PDP defeated the APC in the 2023 governorship election, with incumbent governor Bello Matawalle losing to a PDP candidate. This supplementary election is seen as a test of strength for both parties.
