APM Demands Investigation into 37 Deaths in NSCDC Custody

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) condemned the reported deaths of 37 Nigerians in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, called for an open and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, particularly noting that 66 detainees were held in a single cell for over two days.

The APM criticized the explanation that the victims were illegal miners who died from a suspected disease outbreak, arguing it did not address the inhumane conditions of detention. The party stated that the incident was alarming, especially given the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria.

They also condemned the reported use of ammunition and tear gas against protesters demanding justice for the deceased. The APM insisted on the need for dignity and safety for all citizens in detention, emphasizing that the deaths cannot be justified under any circumstances.
