APM Terminals Signs MoU for Badagry Deep-Seaport Development

APM Terminals, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller–Maersk, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Badagry Port Development Limited on September 7, 2026, in Copenhagen to advance the development of the proposed Badagry Deep-Seaport in Lagos.

This agreement commits both parties to exclusive negotiations for the greenfield port project, with APM Terminals expressing its commitment to progress the development. The MoU was signed by Vincent Clerc, Group Chief Executive Officer of A.P.

Moller–Maersk, and Didi Ndiomu, Managing Director of Badagry Port Development Limited. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, who led a Federal Government delegation to Denmark, emphasized the importance of engaging global terminal operators to modernize Nigeria's maritime infrastructure.

The Badagry port is expected to enhance Nigeria's deepwater capacity, allowing for larger container vessels and new transshipment opportunities, while also alleviating congestion at existing city ports. Igor van den Essen, Managing Director for Africa & Europe at APM Terminals, noted that the project would strengthen Nigeria's trade competitiveness.
