Appeal Court Dismisses Aiyedatiwa's Re-election Appeal

The Appeal Court in Abuja dismissed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's appeal concerning his eligibility for re-election in Ondo State. The court's unanimous judgment, delivered by a three-member panel led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, upheld the Federal High Court's decision made on November 24, 2025, which granted Dr.

Akindel Egbuwalo leave to amend his originating summons challenging Aiyedatiwa's eligibility. The Appeal Court found that the trial court had properly exercised its discretion and that Aiyedatiwa failed to show that the Federal High Court's decision allowed for an amendment that resulted in a miscarriage of justice or denied him the right to a fair hearing.

Consequently, the appeal was dismissed for lack of merit, and the court awarded N2 million in costs against Aiyedatiwa. The ruling also noted that Aiyedatiwa has the option to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court.
