Appeal Court Halts Ruling on Ondo Deputy Governor's Eligibility Challenge

The Federal High Court in Ondo State had a case challenging the eligibility of Governor Aiyedatiwa to contest for a second term in 2028. Dr.

Akin Egbuwalo, an APC chieftain, filed the suit seeking judicial interpretation of the constitution. The court was to rule on whether Aiyedatiwa could run for a second term after completing the late Governor Akeredolu's tenure.

However, an appeal was filed against the trial court's handling of the case, leading to the Appeal Court suspending the judgment scheduled for January 28. Chief Adeniyi Akintola SAN, representing Egbuwalo, argued that the appeal was invalid, but the Appeal Court panel, led by Justice P.O.

Affen, agreed to halt the lower court's judgment pending the appeal's final determination. Chief Solomon Awomolo SAN, the lead counsel for the defense, emphasized the importance of due process and respect for the rule of law in the legal hierarchy.
