NOC Launches Program to Boost Women in Sports Leadership

From March 24 to 26, 2026, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) conducted a transformative three-day program in Abuja, aimed at advancing gender inclusion in Nigeria's sports administration. The initiative brought together a distinguished cohort of 52 women, including former elite athletes and current board members from various national sports federations.

The program, designed to dismantle historical barriers to female leadership, provided participants with international recognition frameworks and essential tools for high-level decision-making. NOC President Engr Habu Ahm Gumel emphasized the need for reform driven by inclusive leadership.

The curriculum, delivered by a team of experts, covered critical areas such as governance, financial oversight, and ethical leadership. Participants were encouraged to embrace their roles as mentors and advocates, replicating lessons learned within their respective federations.

The program concluded with a consensus on empowering women in governance as a core strategy to transform Nigeria into a global sports powerhouse.
