NSC Inaugurates Nigeria Netball Federation, Empowers Women

On May 5, 2023, the National Sports Commission (NSC) inaugurated the Nigeria Netball Federation (NNF). NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko acknowledged the crucial impact of women in Nigerian sports, stating that their contributions have brought women's sports to the forefront.

He highlighted that 70% of the federation's board is composed of women, which he believes will empower women in the sport. Dikko referenced Nigeria's recent successes in women's sports, including achievements at the African Wrestling Championship and the World Athletics Relay.

He expressed a vision for Nigeria to become a global force in netball, emphasizing the importance of grassroots engagement in schools. Dr.

Esther Aluko, the NNF President, commended the NSC for granting the federation official status, while Hon. Bukola Olopade noted the federation's quality membership as a testament to the NSC's efforts.

The event marked a significant step in revitalizing netball governance in Nigeria.
