Gen. Irabor: State Police to Complement Federal Forces

Gen. Lucky Irabor, the former Chief of Defence Staff, addressed the role of state police during the Arise News Townhall in Abuja. He clarified that state police are not designed to compete with federal police or other law enforcement agencies.

Instead, their purpose is to complement these forces, enhancing the overall effectiveness in combating crime. Irabor emphasized the importance of proper intelligence sharing among the various police elements, stating that state police should work synergistically with federal police.

He noted that while state police will play a crucial role in local law enforcement, the federal police remain essential. Irabor also highlighted the need for adequate training, equipment, and welfare for police personnel to ensure they can effectively serve the public and maintain a visible deterrent presence on the streets.
