New Forest Guards Graduate to Enhance Community Security

Over nine hundred forest guards completed a six-week intensive military training program at the Medium Range of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division in Jos, Plateau State. The training included weapon handling, marksmanship, patrol operations, physical conditioning, discipline, and tactical awareness, preparing the guards for operations in challenging forest environments.

Major General Maxwell Dangan, representing the Army Chief, urged the graduates to perform their duties with diligence and professionalism, warning against misconduct and emphasizing the importance of community trust. Major General Valentin Okoro, Chief of Training, described the exercise as vital for protecting forests and natural resources, addressing security concerns in forest areas.

Aminu Chamalwa, Permanent Secretary of the Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security, commended the Nigerian Army and assured that the Borno State Government would deploy the personnel to enhance community security. The guards will monitor forest areas, support patrols, and provide early warnings about threats, preventing criminal groups from using forests as hideouts.
