Nigerian Army Graduates 924 Borno Forest Guards

On September 5, 2026, the Nigerian Army, led by Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, graduated 924 members of the Borno State Forest Guards at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Miango. This graduation aimed to strengthen the forest guards' capacity to protect forest areas, safeguard surrounding communities, and contribute to the preservation of Nigeria's natural resources.

Major General Valentine Okoro, Chief of Training (Army), emphasized the critical role of forests in sustaining biodiversity and livelihoods, stating that their protection is a collective responsibility. The training included rigorous instruction to improve knowledge, practical skills, physical endurance, discipline, and weapon-handling proficiency.

Colonel RO Alieze, the Training Team Leader, noted that the trainees were organized into companies for effective administration and that the training faced challenges, particularly language barriers, which were overcome through interpretation and practical exercises. Major General Maxwell Dangana, General Officer Commanding 3 Division, highlighted the strategic importance of forests for national security and community well-being.
