Army confirms explosion, fire outbreak at Ilese barracks in Ogun

The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion and fire outbreak at the Ilese barracks in Ogun State. Army spokesperson, Appolonia Anele, stated that the incident occurred early Thursday morning and was localized within a storage facility belonging to the 42nd Engineers Brigade Explosive Device Squadron.

Anele reported that the explosion led to a limited fire outbreak, which was quickly brought under control by troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment working alongside the Fire Service. No lives were lost, and no injuries were recorded.

The damage was limited to the affected building and stored material. A detailed assessment is ongoing to determine the full extent of the material loss.

The Nigerian Army reassured residents of Ilese and the surrounding community to remain calm and continue with their normal activities.
