Army Urges Calm As Explosion Rocks Ilese Barracks In Ijebu Ode

The Nigerian Army has urged calm following a minor explosion at the Ilese Barracks in Ogun State. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, resulted in a limited fire outbreak in a storage building belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.

Army Spokesperson Appolonia Anele confirmed that there was swift intervention from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment and the Fire Service, which quickly contained the fire. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported, and the structural damage was confined to the affected building and its stored materials.

A detailed assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of the material loss. The Nigerian Army is collaborating with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of personnel and the surrounding community.
