Nigerian Army Intercepts Suspected ISWAP Member in Borno

On Wednesday at approximately 3:05 p.m., troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI intercepted a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Munguno Local Government Area, Borno State. The operation, disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, occurred along the Maiduguri–Monguno Road during routine surveillance and stop-and-search operations conducted by the 212 Battalion.

The suspect was apprehended due to suspicious movement, leading to the recovery of a Starlink satellite internet terminal, a Wi-Fi router with six access points, a mobile phone, and N1,000 cash. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect claimed the equipment was for his internet service business.

However, security sources expressed concerns about the circumstances of his possession of the devices, prompting the transfer of the suspect and the recovered items to the Military Intelligence Brigade (7 MIB) for further investigation. Investigators aim to determine the intended use of the Starlink device and any potential links to ISWAP or other terrorist networks.
