NPC Launches Digital Birth and Death Registration in Kwara

The National Population Commission (NPC) has initiated full digital registration of births and deaths in Kwara State through the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system, with the VitalReg platform becoming operational across the state's 16 local government areas on July 1, 2026. Yahaya Alada, the new Federal Commissioner representing Kwara State at the NPC, announced the rollout in Ilorin on Wednesday.

He was sworn into office by President Bola Tinubu on June 29, 2026. This initiative follows the national launch of the E-CRVS system by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on November 8, 2023.

Alada stated that the digital registration is a transformative reform in civil registration, aiming to improve service delivery and data integrity. He highlighted that many births and deaths in Kwara remain unregistered, depriving residents of legal identity and reliable demographic data.

To combat this, the NPC has established 92 registration centers and is enhancing collaboration with stakeholders to improve registration personnel's capacity.
