Army and NSCDC Arrest 15 in Abuja Illegal Mining Raid

A joint operation by the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) led to the arrest of 15 suspects involved in illegal mining activities in the Kuje Area Council of Abuja. The operation, which was disclosed in a statement from the Abuja Command of the Mine Marshal, was supported by the 176 Guard Battalion from Gwagwalada.

This action is part of ongoing efforts to combat economic sabotage and environmental destruction linked to illegal mining. Attah John Omoja, a security official, emphasized the need for inter-agency collaboration to effectively tackle crimes related to illegal mining.

Following preliminary investigations, Mohammadu Sani and 14 others were charged in court. The operation also aimed to address concerns raised by residents regarding environmental damage and security threats posed by unchecked illegal mining activities in their communities.
