Troops Arrest 10 Illegal Miners in Abuja Operation

On May 20, at approximately 3:07 PM, troops from the 176 Guard Battalion conducted a raid on an illegal mining site in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining activities that contribute to environmental degradation and insecurity in the country.

Following intelligence reports, the troops stormed the site and apprehended 10 suspects believed to be involved in illegal mining operations. During the raid, items recovered included one motorcycle, 15 mining materials, four head pans, and several mining implements used by the suspects.

The arrested individuals are currently undergoing profiling and preliminary investigations for further necessary actions. Security sources indicated that this operation is part of intensified efforts by security agencies to clamp down on illegal mining activities, with surveillance and enforcement operations continuing across identified illegal mining locations within the FCT and neighboring states.
