Army Rescues 16 Kidnapped Victims in Kogi State

On August 9, 2026, 16 individuals were kidnapped by armed criminals in Ofu Local Government Area, Kogi State. The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, local vigilantes, and hunters, launched a rescue operation after receiving intelligence about the victims' location near Adumu Community in Dekina Local Government Area.

The operation involved troops from the 21 Battalion and personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard. During the encounter, the joint security team engaged the fleeing kidnappers in a firefight, leading to the criminals abandoning their captives.

All 16 victims, which included six adult males, six adult females, and four children, were rescued and are undergoing documentation and medical assessment. Tragically, one local hunter was killed, and a police officer sustained injuries.

The Army commended the joint efforts of all security personnel and local stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in combating violent crimes.
