Nigerian Army Denies Forced Labor Allegations at Calabar Barracks

The Nigerian Army has refuted claims of forced labor and human rights abuses at the Eburutu Barracks in Calabar. The Army dismissed the allegations as false and misleading, emphasizing that routine sanitation activities, including those in the Mammi Market area, are voluntary and not enforced through intimidation or punishment.

The Army denied imposing a 1,000 Naira levy on residents and dissociated itself from any unauthorized activities within the barracks. The 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army stressed its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and protecting lives and property, urging the public to disregard unverified reports and rely on official channels for information.
