Nigerian Army Educates Yobe Students on Drug Abuse Risks

On September 24, 2026, the Nigerian Army, represented by Brigadier General Edet Effiong from Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, organized an awareness campaign at Government Girls Unity College in Damaturu, Yobe State. The event, themed “Education as a Strategic Tool for Combating Drugs and Substance Abuse: Impact on National Security,” aimed to educate over 300 students about the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

Effiong, speaking on behalf of Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, described drug abuse as a significant threat to the well-being and future of young people, urging them to make positive choices. The initiative also aimed to prevent criminal networks from exploiting vulnerable youth.

Idriss Mohammed Fune, Director of Schools Management at the Yobe State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, praised the initiative and encouraged students to disseminate the anti-drug message within their communities. The program included presentations from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and provided students with writing materials and souvenirs.
