GOC Auwalu Mahmuda Urges Troops to Avoid Substance Abuse

Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, issued a warning to troops regarding substance abuse and the misuse of social media during his visit to the 12 Brigade Area of Responsibility (AOR) from September 2 to 4, 2026. This visit was part of his inaugural operational tour of the formations and units under his command.

The GOC was welcomed by Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, the Commander of the 12 Brigade, who briefed him on the brigade's operational activities. Major General Mahmuda praised the troops for their significant operational achievements, particularly the recent rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and six civilians who were abducted in Kogi State.

He acknowledged their efforts in maintaining safety in Kogi and surrounding areas, which contributed to a decrease in criminal activities. He emphasized the strategic importance of Kogi State and urged the troops to continue their operational efforts to ensure peace and security.
