Arne Slot Critiques Premier League's Set-Piece Focus

Arne Slot, a Dutch football coach, expressed his concerns regarding the Premier League's increasing emphasis on set-piece goals, which he believes diminishes the overall enjoyment of watching matches. He pointed out that set-piece goals accounted for 27.5% of all league strikes this season, marking the second highest share since the 2009-2010 season.

Slot's comments came in light of Liverpool's 5-2 victory over West Ham United, where three first-half goals were scored from set pieces. He noted that Liverpool's rivals have scored 16 goals from corners, tying for the highest record in a single Premier League season.

Slot, who previously coached in the Eredivisie, acknowledged the physical approach to dead-ball situations and its impact on match spectacle. He mentioned that Liverpool's set-piece coach, Aaron Brigg, has contributed to this trend, and Slot sees little chance of reversing it as he prepares for Tuesday's clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
