Arsenal Seeks New Defender After Saliba Injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta announced on Thursday that the club is actively searching for a new defender to address a shortage in their backline following William Saliba's long-term injury. This statement was made ahead of Arsenal's Premier League opener against Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta emphasized the club's ambition to improve the squad, particularly in defense, and mentioned they are linked with Aston Villa and England defender Ezri Konsa. He acknowledged that while the club is working hard to secure a new signing, external factors may influence the deal's progress.

Arteta confirmed that players Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice are ready for the season opener, while Jurriën Timber is not yet back in full training. He also noted that Bruno Guimaraes' availability remains uncertain.

Arteta expressed the need for a deeper squad to cope with the demands of the season and injury challenges faced in the previous year. He confirmed that Myles Lewis-Skelly would remain at Arsenal beyond the transfer deadline.
