As Osun Cries out to Tinubu Over LG Funds

Osun State government has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the withholding of state local government allocations, citing hardship in grassroots communities. The government stated that the withholding of funds, following a recent Court of Appeal judgment recognizing the state's local government leadership, has exacerbated poverty in the state.

The government highlighted that the legal and political basis for withholding the allocation is unfounded, as elected officials from the February local government elections are in place. The state government commended traditional rulers for their efforts to secure the release of the funds.

Meanwhile, the federal government's decision to withhold funds from Osun's local councils has sparked accusations of bias and inconsistency, especially compared to Edo State where local government allocations continue despite similar circumstances. The state government is seeking a Supreme Court order to release the seized funds and restrain further withholding.
