As pressure mounts on Governor Kefas to replace Taraba's ailing Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali, who has been ill since December 2024, stakeholders in the state, especially opposition politicians, are urging action. Governor Kefas addressed the state on August 12, 2025, acknowledging the controversy surrounding Alkali's prolonged absence due to health issues.

Alkali suffered a stroke and has been recuperating since returning from treatment in Egypt in May 2025. Despite doctors advising against resuming office, there are calls for his removal based on constitutional provisions.
