Tinubu's Administration Achieves Key Security Milestones

Since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, his administration has focused on enhancing Nigeria's security landscape, addressing challenges such as terrorism in the North East, banditry in the North West, and separatist violence in the South East. The Nigerian Armed Forces, under the direction of Major General Michael Onoja, reported significant operational successes, including the neutralization of 317 terrorists, the arrest of 314 suspects, and the rescue of 221 civilians.

The military's efforts also led to the dismantling of illegal arms manufacturing networks and the seizure of sophisticated oil theft equipment. The Defence Headquarters indicated that these operations resulted in the destruction of three illegal refining sites and the recovery of 21,910 liters of assorted petroleum products.

Despite ongoing security challenges, Nigeria's global terror index ranking improved from eighth in 2020 to sixth in 2025, reflecting a positive trajectory in the country's security situation.
