Tinubu: 13,000 Terrorists Neutralized in Nigeria in One Year

In a statement on Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu reported that 13,000 terrorists were neutralized in Nigeria within the last year as part of the government's intensified efforts to combat insecurity across the country. He highlighted recent successful operations in Borno State that degraded the command center of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Tinubu noted that terror-related deaths have decreased by 81% since 2015. Despite these efforts, he reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to a non-kinetic approach in the fight against insurgency, providing opportunities for fighters to surrender and reintegrate into society.

He mentioned that 124,000 insurgents are expected to lay down their arms by 2023 through the federal government's Safe Corridor program. Tinubu warned that bandits and kidnappers sponsoring terrorism must embrace peace or face the full force of the law, stating that the window for surrender will not remain open indefinitely.
