ASERA Consults on Draft Regulations for Abia Electricity Market

On Thursday, ASERA convened a public consultation in Umuahia to present six draft regulations designed to create an investor-friendly electricity market in Abia State. Governor Alex Otti's administration prioritizes a reliable electricity market as a critical enabler of socio-economic development.

The consultation aimed to gather stakeholder feedback, which is essential for the drafts to become law. ASERA's board chairman, Emeka Onyegbul, stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement in the regulatory process.

The draft regulations cover licensing, market operations, consumer protection, and regulatory oversight. The consultation marks a significant step in implementing the Electricity Act of 2023 and the Abia State Electricity Law of 2025.

Dr. Sam Amadi, chairman of ASERA's advisory council, noted that stakeholder engagement is crucial for regulatory decisions and resolving complaints.

The event included a question-and-answer session to facilitate further stakeholder involvement.
